About Justin Miller
Justin started as a singer and guitarist growing up in central Kentucky. Since starting his band SHOZO in 2010, he has honed his craft as a multi-instrumentalist and composer. Through studying jazz, symphonic music and writing in various bands, he learned to combine sounds and composition styles from many different eras and genres into a unique musical style all his own.
In 2018, he recorded his first solo album Recent Time with all songs written, performed and recorded himself. He later composed the music for the silent film horror series Flicker, featuring the other members of his band SHOZO. In Flicker, Justin also worked with directors Tom Savini, Tina Romero and it's creator, Robert Tinnell. In 2019, Justin scored the film Closure, which was selected for the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival and the Pasadena International Film Festival.
Beginning in the fall of 2020, Justin was brought on to score an occult body-horror film called Entropy. This HaleHouse production out of Cincinnati was Justin’s first feature-length score and one that drew from both 80s synth sounds and more natural orchestral sounds. Entropy is now available on most streaming services.
HaleHouse started post-production of their second feature, Free to a Bad Home, at the end of 2021. On Free to a Bad Home, Justin was tasked with scoring along with contributing dark, original, electronic dance music. This combination of sounds and music styles created a unique feel for the film and showcased better music production all around. 2021 also gave Justin the opportunity to work within the world of podcasts, creating the intro for Rumors and Confabulation, a Kentucky-based podcast about cryptids and lore.
Growing up with science fiction and a lifelong fascination with space, Justin was excited to have the opportunity to score War Targ - a Star Trek fan film from Potemkin Pictures in 2022. This score was fully orchestral, with brass, strings and percussion. Filmed in Lexington, Ky, War Targ is the first episode of a fan series that follows the USS Caliborn NCC 5306.
